Carlos Mataix Carlos Mataix is Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the director of the Innovation and Technology for Development Centre at the same university (itdUPM).
The itdUPM is an interdisciplinary center, which associates fifteen research groups that develop technological and organizational measures to solve social and environmental problems innovations. His role model is based on building partnerships for sustainability with technology companies, international agencies and NGOs. The main fields of action can be highlighted search and diffusion of innovations that improve access for the most vulnerable to essential services such as water, energy and waste treatment population; supporting inclusive innovation initiatives that contribute to increase the capacity of the most vulnerable to develop solutions adapted to their needs communities; and preparation of engineers and architects to work on the transition processes towards sustainability.
Carlos has a long history in the field of international cooperation for development. He co-founded the NGO Engineers Without Borders (now ONGAWA), and was responsible for the Planning Unit and Quality Support the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). He has published several articles and books on management cooperation and, in particular, on building partnerships with the business sector.
