Rethinking the Economic Agenda to Better Serve Society

Worldwide there is a growing consensus that some economic policies have contributed to increased inequality. The global financial crisis led to a broad rethink of macroeconomic and financial policies in the global academic and policy community, not least at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF re-evaluates its thinking continually and builds on its experiences to improve its effectiveness in economic surveillance and crisis response. Jeffrey Franks, Director of the IMF Europe office, will discuss new areas of work and research being undertaken at the IMF to support growth and equity over the long term.
