Sustainable transformation through Santiago Gowland and the Rainforest Alliance
The Rainforence Alliance, an international NGO with a presence in more than 70 countries, is recognized worldwide for creating iconic brand-building campaigns such as “Follow the Frog”, as well as for the impact of its actions in the fight against climate change and the creation of economic opportunities for the rural population. We will have its CEO, Santiago Gowland, an expert not only in the world of activism and the third sector (he was Executive Vice President of Global Innovation for Latin America at The Nature Conservancy), but also in the private corporate sector where he has held positions of high responsibility in innovative companies such as Estée Lauder and Nike, leading the integration of sustainability in the center of the business.
Santiago Gowland: A leader passionate about conservation and sustainability at the Rainforest Alliance
Gowland, originally from Argentina, is passionate about conservation and sustainability, he will bring his vast experience implementing organizational innovation and sustainable transformation across various sectors, cultures and continents.
«I am pleased to bring my global business and conservation knowledge to further the Rainforest Alliance’s vision of a world where people and nature thrive together. It is essential that we harness market and social forces to protect nature and improve the quality of life for farmers and forest communities immediately. The Rainforest Alliance is the only entity that can bring together farmers, forest communities, businesses and consumers to create a more sustainable and resilient future for people and nature.”
Rainforest Alliance: Creating economic opportunities and fighting climate change globally
The Rainforest Alliance, with more than 30 years of experience in sustainable transformation greatly enhanced since the incorporation of Gowland, creates a more sustainable world by implementing field-proven and scalable solutions, while testing innovative ways to drive positive change at scale. Santiago Gowland is proud to say that his organization changes the way the world produces, supplies, and consumes through its certification program, supply chain services, integrated farm management, and influence on favorable policies.
The Rainforest Alliance focuses on cocoa, coffee, tea, bananas, forest products, and palm oil. In the new edition of Sustainable Brands, focused on how to transition from being a brand with purpose to being an Impact brand, Gowland will offer his regenerative vision on how to achieve that change. The damage resulting from our consumption/growth model has significantly impacted our natural and social systems.
Impact-Driven Brand’s vision, shared with the Rainforest Alliance and Gowland, is to restore these systems and, through its business practices, seeks to promote the regeneration of environmental and social systems that support human prosperity while enabling business continuity. In 2020, 6.8 million hectares of land and more than 2.3 million farmers were certified according to the Rainforest Alliance’s strict sustainability standards, which were created to ameliorate the economic, environmental and social impact suffered by people and nature. A figure that generates hope but that, with the encouragement of Gowland and the Rainforest Alliance, must continue to grow.
