Executive Director of Fundación Biodiversidad, a public foundation part of the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition. The foundation is the main donor for biodiversity projects in Spain (around 250 per year) and also an implementing agency. In this lattest role, the foundation is coordinating several European projects related to the ocean or to THE adaptation to climate change. She joined the foundation in 2004 as director of the Foundation’s International Department. During this period she created, implemented and oversaw the GreenJobs Programme and GreenEnterpreneurs Network set up to boost Green economy. She was also responsible of Biodiversity projects co-funded by European Comission’s funds, European Social Fund budgets, and International cooperation projects in Latin America and Africa.
She started her career as an environmental lawyer in 1997. She worked for different consultancy and law firms. Also she has contributed to several non-profit organisations and has extensive experience in international cooperation for development and as a delegate in numerous international forums. Also, Sonia is a member of several international and national juries, such as the European Commission´s European Awards for the Environment; nominator for awards and supporting programmes for projects or organizations such as Ashoka’s Venture Board; and member of governmental consultancy bodies such as the National Parks Network Council, the Spanish Advisory Council for the Environment or the Spanish Committe of Unesco Man and Biosphere Programme.
